About Us

TIMER was founded by Monte Posner in 1980. Initially, we were a loosely knit group of REMSCO instructors before NYS launched its official curriculum for instructors. Our faculty members have extensive experience teaching emergency courses in southern Brooklyn, Staten Island, and other areas of New York.

Monte began his career in emergency medical services in 1975 as a founding member of the former Canarsie Volunteer Ambulance Corp in Brooklyn, NY. In 1980, he became an EMT instructor upon founding TIMER.

Mike’s medical career began in March of 1996 as a New York State-certified first responder. In June 1998, Mike became an NYS EMT upon graduating from TIMER.

L.E. Teatum has been an NYS EMT since 1979 and an NYS licensed RN since 1981. He has also served as an adjunct professor of behavioral health nursing for Kingsborough Community College since 2011.

After graduating from TIMER in 2004, Christopher started working as an intern instructor, eventually becoming an NYS-certified lab instructor. Currently, he serves as the lead EMT at Northwell Health Staten Island University Hospital.

Rosanne Giovansanti began her career in 1990 as a member of the NYPD’s Auxiliary Emergency Services Unit Patrol in Staten Island.

NYS EMT Qualifications

Complete the application for emergency medical services certification, including the affirmation regarding criminal convictions.

Successfully complete an approved New York State EMT-B or AEMT course.

Achieve a passing score on the written and practical certification examinations.

Be at least 18 years old by the end of the month in which the written certification examination is scheduled.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for high school graduation or the equivalent education.

Possess the ability to collaborate with other providers to make appropriate patient care decisions.
